Abraham Lincoln is said to be the most defeated man in US presidential history. He failed miserably in business. He failed as a lawyer being too temperamental. After many more defeats he was again defeated in the Senatorial election of 1858 due to his opposition to the expansion of slavery. He became so much frustrated with his defeats that he wrote this in a letter to a friend:
“I am now the most miserable man living. If what I feel were equally distributed to the whole human family, there would not be one cheerful face on the earth.”
But he didn’t give up and finally, in Nov, 1860 at age 51, he was elected as the 16th President of the United States.
