Live Ethically

I love these quotations from the book Ethics for Dummies. I hope you’ll like them as well:

1. “Lives that are lived ethically tend to be calmer, more focused, and more productive than those that are lived unethically.”

2. “Hurting people leaves scars on both the giver and the receiver. As a result, unethical people have stormier internal lives because they have to work to suppress their consciences and sympathies to deal with the ways they treat others. When they fail to properly suppress their sympathies, the guilt and shame that come with harming or disrespecting one’s fellow human beings take deep root within them.”

It’s to calm these internal storms that arise due to inner guilt and shame people take anti-depressants and intoxicants. The best medicine to avoid any anti-depressant is never to let guilt take charge of your life.

If you happen to hurt someone, it may be bumping your car into someone else’s car, accept your fault, say sorry and try to mitigate that damage. But never run away. If you run away, you’ll run away with guilt.
