Kintsukuroi (keen-tsoo-koo-roy) is the Japanese art of repairing pottery with Gold. But it’s something much more than that. Japanese believe that when something has suffered damage and has a history, it becomes more beautiful.
The story is that there was a bowl which was much loved by a hot tempered military ruler. A servant accidentally dropped it in a gathering. Everyone feared that the ruler would get angry on the servant. One of the guests improvised a humorous poem about the bowl cheering up the ruler. The story goes on to say that due to that appreciation the bowl had become more beautiful for being broken. The true life of the bowl began the moment it was dropped.
From that day mended bowls have been used and cherished in Japan for centuries.
It’s same with our hearts. God mends our broken hearts with His own Gold. The more a heart gets broken, the more precious it gets in God’s eyes.
